Woman Stained Glass ‘Alfreda’ by Laura Kriefman

The third Woman Stained Glass piece features a 60 cm tall window split into two, giving a sense of the nude woman peeking out from behind the curtains.

Using hand-blown glass and lead, the artist has created a strong female image – unafraid of the world outside.

Artist’s Statement

Alfreda is a nighttime reflection, I absolutely love her and how she has materialised in these sumptuous purples. Alfreda’s inspiration was a reflection of the model in a bedroom window after darkness had fallen outside. The handblown glass I used for her body really allows for her curves to sing and undulate. I was really excited to see how the more dense purple created the darker external sky but echoed the handblown glass so excellently that she feels part of the same reflected night time image.

Woman Stained Glass – Artist

Laura Kriefman glass artist works primarily with painted and lead light and painted glass in her work, which ranges from large architectural works to small works of art.

From her studio in Dawlish, Devon Laura either works on her own pieces or on glass art commissions which can be done on-site or remotely. 

Despite its two-dimensional nature, Kriefman loves the medium of stained glass and utilises it to its most creative.

Lead light stained glass enables her to bring both her love of movement and colour to her works through the precisely cut compositions of glass pieces.

Stained glass is an inherently colourful medium that allows the artist to tell their story in a multitude of ways, with vibrancy, depth and great fluidity.

In 2024, Kriefman won the Amanda Moriarty Memorial Award and was also accepted into the Green Hill Arts Biennale

Before she was Laura Kriefman glass artist, Laura was an acclaimed dance choreographer, with many awards under her belt. For over 20 years she created and delivered projects worldwide.
