Stained Glass Trees ‘Rainforest’ by Laura Kriefman

The stained glass trees that make up this scene are made from a series of layers of glasswork that give real depth.

Perfect for a side table, nook or deep window sill.

Artist’s Statement

This piece is made from 4 layers of copper foiled stained glass work, with glass painting. It uses a mix of discontinued glass – the layering creates this depth of diorama that you can just fall into. I’ve collaborated with the extremely talented Johnny from @boostarwood to make the amazing stand for this piece out of a living edge piece of Pippy Oak-it’s so divine. I designed this piece based on a photo that a friend took for me, as I was on a walkabout on Dartmoor. On the first morning, we woke in Lustleigh Woods which is a section of Temperate Rain Forest. I was totally mesmerised by the layers of foliage and trees, bogs and ferns and knew I needed to capture it in glass. This piece was conceived as a ‘diorama’-with 4 layers pulling you deeper into the forest and enabling you to feel the lushness and depth of greenery and lush wonder that our temperate rainforests contain. Time on artwork circa:70 hours

Stained Glass Trees – Artist

Glass artist Laura Kriefman works primarily with painted and lead light and painted glass in her work, which ranges from large architectural works to small works of art.

From her studio in Dawlish, Devon Laura either works on her own pieces or on glass art commissions which can be done on-site or remotely.

Despite its two-dimensional nature, Kriefman loves the medium of stained glass and utilises it to its most creative.

Lead light stained glass enables her to bring both her love of movement and colour to her works through the precisely cut compositions of glass pieces.

Stained glass is an inherently colourful medium that allows the artist to tell their story in a multitude of ways, with vibrancy, depth and great fluidity.

In 2024, Kriefman won the Amanda Moriarty Memorial Award and was also accepted into the Green Hill Arts Biennale

Before she was Laura Kriefman glass artist, Laura was an acclaimed dance choreographer, with many awards under her belt. For over 20 years she created and delivered projects worldwide.
