Glass Painting ‘Castellers’ Laura Kriefman
A glass painting of the famous Castellars of Barcelona Spain. Captured by the artists after having trained with them.
A great piece for a wall or tall window.
Artist’s Statement
This piece is based on a photo my partner took one Friday evening when we got to train with the fabulous Castellers de Barcelona. They welcomed us into their community and taught us the basics. We were in awe of the teamwork, focus and complete joy of this community. This felt like an absurd piece to try and capture-and due to the kiln gods it almost was! But I love this piece and loved playing with the abstraction in the lower section out a key colour from someone’s shirt for each of the glass colour choices. I can’t wait for the Castellers to see it! This piece includes enamel, glass painting and lead work. Time on artwork: 33 hours ( circa 5-6 days) Inspired when training with the fabulous Castellers de Barcelona–and an absurd piece to try and capture! Full of colour, community and joy
Glass Painting – Artist
Laura Kriefman glass artist works primarily with painted and lead light and painted glass in her work, which ranges from large architectural works to small works of art.
From her studio in Dawlish, Devon Laura either works on her own pieces or on glass art commissions which can be done on-site or remotely.
Despite its two-dimensional nature, Kriefman loves the medium of stained glass and utilises it to its most creative.
Lead light stained glass enables her to bring both her love of movement and colour to her works through the precisely cut compositions of glass pieces.
Stained glass is an inherently colourful medium that allows the artist to tell their story in a multitude of ways, with vibrancy, depth and great fluidity.
In 2024, Kriefman won the Amanda Moriarty Memorial Award and was also accepted into the Green Hill Arts Biennale
Before she was Laura Kriefman glass artist, Laura was an acclaimed dance choreographer, with many awards under her belt. For over 20 years she created and delivered projects worldwide.
