3D Artwork On Paper ‘The Self Preservation Society’ by Amanda Deadman Art

Fans of The Italian Job (film) will recognise the title of this 3D artwork on paper immediately. It’s one of Amanda Deadman’s favourite films and has three minis in it, one red, one white and one blue. It’s also quintessentially British, hence the Union Jack flag.

Amanda created an illustration of a Mini car, a head-on view, and then printed this onto watercolour paper. She then arranged 56 minis in a square and painted the Union Jack flag across them in watercolour paint and gold ink. Each mini was cut out and painted by hand and mounted on small foam board plinths to enhance the 3D effect. This helps to cast shadows depending on where the light is coming from.

For the final flourish, gold ink is splattered across the piece, forming the base for the painted cars to sit on.

N.B. The image shown is an example of the series. Amanda makes each piece by hand, therefore every one is unique and will vary slightly from the one shown.

The artwork is framed in a white glazed (Perspex) deep box frame.

Amanda’s art journey began with a degree in 3D design and photography from West Surrey College of Art and Design. She works with a variety of media. From college, she produced kiln-formed glass for sale exclusively through galleries in Piccadilly London, and Edinburgh, Scotland. She has also painted all her life, producing photo-realistic work, in watercolour and acrylic on canvas.  Her sculptural artwork exists in galleries and collections across the globe.

More recently, Amanda has returned to her 3D roots and now specialises in creating beautiful, intricate and detailed cut watercolour and paper artworks. She loves using watercolour, gold leaf and gold ink, and creating interesting colour graduations.

She has also branched out into creating completely white artworks which she continues to explore.

Amanda Deadman’s sculptures are handmade in her tranquil home studio in North Oxfordshire, UK.  The natural world, such as flowers, insects, birds, and fish inspires her artworks. She is also very much a book and film fan, and her favourite films and books, such as ‘The Italian Job’ and ‘Jonathan Livingstone Seagull’ also feature in her work.
