Art Glass Coral ‘Yellow Fan’ by Elena Fleury Rojo

Art glass coral ‘Yellow Fan’ by Elena Fleury Rojo is part of her new series that hopes to bring attention to the fact that the coral reefs around the world are dying and we have limited time to make the changes to save them.

Elena’s ‘Message in a Bottle’ series uses handblown glass bottles with flameworked coral inside. It is a message to whoever finds it that the world’s coral is being bleached and damaged by human activity.

These glass vessels carry an important message for us all.

Art Glass Coral Artist

Elena Fleury-Rojo glass artist is an exceptional British flameworker and glass blower.

Elena graduated from Buckinghamshire University in 2008 with a BA (Hons) in glassblowing. While at the New Designers graduation shows, Elena was hand-picked from 2,500 graduates for the New Designers SELECTION

After graduation, Elena headed to Wanganui Glass School in New Zealand, where she worked as a Hot Glass Tutorial Assistant.

Wanganui was a huge influence on Elena’s work and helped her fall in love with flameworking. In 2011, in her first competitive foray, she won first prize at the GBUK Glass Bead Competition.

Based at her specialised flameworking studio in Colchester, England, her glass works are so diverse, ever-changing, and developing, from organic sculptural pieces to mixed media to functional pieces with a unique flair.

Her works have been showcased at the Henry Moore Foundation in Perry Green, Hertfordshire, and have been met with glowing feedback. Elena produces her increasingly popular works under the Red Flower Glass brand.

In 2013, Elena’s glass daisies were featured in the Saatchi Gallery as part of Layne Row’s Hardware series.

In 2014, Elena was accepted on an internship with James Lethbridge Glass in Belgium, where she honed her borosilicate glass-making skills while working on organically flowing flameworked chandeliers.

Since then, Elena has worked on various collections inspired by her love of nature and continues to upskill in flameworking.

Elena’s recent “Reef” formations have been featured in many national publications, and a piece from the series has been selected for the contemporary glass collection to represent UK flameworking skills at Stourbridge Glass Museum.

The Arts Council England DYCP grant in 2022, awarded to Elena, enabled her to expand and study scientific glass-blowing techniques at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland, under Brian Jones, MBE.

This led to the creation of her most recent series, “Message in a Bottle.”
