Recycled Blown Glass ‘My Juggling World’ by Janine Altman

Perfectly balanced recycled blown glass from Uruguyan glass artist Janine Altman

Richly detailed using flameworking to finish the final touches to the piece of upcycled art that also used luxury Bullseye glass and float glass.

Built around its own very unique stand that encompasses a series of rings on top of one another and fused together.

Artist Statement About This Piece:
At present, we suffer from stress and lack of time, constantly trying to fulfil all the tasks and obligations. Many times, chaos has become the norm. My inner world is trying to fulfil all areas of my life, constantly seeking the balance between work, family and friends. In our daily life we learn to be like a juggler; handling multiple priorities at the same time. Here I try to represent my world, my life, and my constant search where I can perform all the tasks that I must and want, in the best possible way, fulfilling all of them. That is why this world is like a rainbow of colours and hopes, colours of equality and solidarity, which I chose, trying to find that necessary joy and optimism. But a world where its base and support are far from
transmitting firmness and security, being a set of rings that combine with each other, trying to give stability to that world, despite acting like a juggler. Details: Flameworked and Fused glass, with Bullseye and recycled blown glass. It is also combined with some stainless-steel rings.

Recycled Blown Glass – Artist

Janine Altman hails from Uruguay. She creates stunning glass artworks using a range of techniques. These include Fused Glass, Flameworking and Pate de Verre. Altman also has her own unique way of working glass, which she calls “Openwork Glass”. This signature style is a sophisticated form that consists of joining hundreds of small bits of glass linked by metal lines. This allows Janine to make a new structure altogether.

More recently, Janine has been experimenting and investigating ways to recycle glass and be more sustainable and planet-friendly in her practice. She starts by using either broken objects or those in disuse and in her glass artworks. Many of her pieces have a geometric and abstract form, with a range of textures and tones. This results in entirely unique and irreproducible pieces. Her style is often as eclectic as it is avant-garde!

Janine has participated in a great variety of International Exhibitions and Fairs and her works are recognised by Contemporary Glass Society, UK and the National Liberty Museum of Philadelphia. Educational and social institutions, as well as private collections, hold Janine’s artworks.

Finally, Janine also teaches glass artistry and is Director of the Gallery ACCS Visual Arts in Montevideo, Uruguay. A very talented and industrious lady indeed!

Artist’s Statement

“Contemplate nature as a source of inspiration. The universe arouses our curiosity and amazes us with its details, rhythms, colours, textures, shapes and volumes. The harmony and geometry of nature motivate me and my work. “
