Colourful Glass Sculpture ‘On Ice’ by Sandra Balmer
‘On Ice’ is a unique free-standing colourful glass sculpture from the talented hands of Sandra Balmer. The colours, shapes and movement in the piece change from every angle viewed, the amber flowing over the blue glass. A bit like whiskey over ice!
A ‘towering’ piece of glass art, it features a triangular base which rises up to a point, to stand at 50 cm tall. The shape, colours and size of this awesome sculpture will draw gasps of admiration. It is certainly dramatic in every way.
Colourful Glass Sculpture Artist
After taking early retirement from her first career in 2010, Sandra successfully studied for a BA in Art & Design (Major Glass) at the Glyndwr University School of Art & Design. Her degree show was exhibited at New Designers in Islington, London in 2016 and was then included as part of a group of selected makers touring the North of England during 2017.
Sandra’s work features a range of skills but she primarily specialises in cast glass. As her work progressed, Sandra set up a workshop at her home in North Shropshire. From her home studio, she now designs and creates large kiln formed cast sculptures. These are inspired primarily by the landscape around her. Continually looking at new techniques and furthering her research and experimentation she has undertaken master classes with highly respected glass artists such as Petr Stacho (Czech Republic), Vladimir Klein (Czech Republic) and Dr Gerry King (Australia).
During 2020 Sandra produced her first collection of work entitled Land, Sea and Sky. A collection of unique cast glass sculptures which capture both the colour and movement of the nature around her.
The Boha team are delighted to welcome Sandra to our gallery. We have no doubt that her outstanding glass art will delight all who see it.
