Artist Statement

Adaptations of the bird woman can be found in Russian children’s stories and paintings since the 8th century. This Sirin has the body of the Song Trush and the head of a woman singing mournfully as she flies into the sky.

Traditional stained glass painting techniques and metal fabrication methods such as ‘Hot Riveting’ were used to make this unique stand-alone sculpture.
Suitable for indoor spaces, and comes with a wooden plinth.

Bird Woman – Artist

April Pebble glass artist is a Somerset-based artist who creates amazing stained glass commissions and produces fused glass vessels of vivid colours and great imagination.

Her sculptural artworks incorporate metal fabrication, stained glass, and painted glass which she collaborates on with Craftsman Josh White.

April’s work explores the delights of nature and the fringes of our imaginations.

After graduating in Blown Glass from Manchester Metropolitan University, April went to work at Bristol’s Creative Glass Guild, specialising in fused glass. From there, she undertook Stained Glass Conservationist training at Holywell Glass in Wells.

For many years, April ran therapeutic art workshops for the charity One25 in St Paul’s in Bristol

Since the summer of 2024, April’s primary focus has been working on her own glass-making and is currently taking on private fused and stained glass commissions.

April takes on commission for both private residences and designs sculptural work for exhibitions.

Her studio is based on a farm in Shepton Mallet and when not working on her own pieces, she runs courses in creative glass techniques. She also continues to run glass art courses at the Bristol Folk House.

April’s goal is to create gorgeous, eye-catching glass art that pushes the boundaries of traditional glass-making and delivers something that provides the viewer with a deep sense of appreciation for the natural world.

April Pebble glass artist and teacher, enjoys teaching and running courses very much and, through her enthusiasm for glass making, aims to encourage other people to explore their artistic potential.
