Glass Heart Paperweight – Artist
Paula Rosalind Glass artist began her artistic career working in watercolour and pastels. Inspired by Japanese artists Paula would create miniature paintings of flowers and insects.
These tiny botanical paintings were made directly onto silk, with natural flora and fauna being the main focus of her artwork.
Today, Paula still finds inspiration in mother nature’s natural forms and her work is interlaced with the styles of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. These styles fit well with her nature-inspired work as they are inextricably linked with organic forms.
This myriad of influences coalesce to form Paula’s unique art style, and her art is a continued reflection of these varied surroundings.
Using both traditional and more contemporary methods, Paula creates collages and mosaics in stained, fused and painted glass.
Investing in the world’s finest glass, Paula uses dichroic, iridised, mirror and Venetian glass, as well as complimenting the glass with ceramic inclusions and semi-precious materials.
She has found further inspiration in the artworks of Louis Comfort Tiffany and master designer Rene Lalique.
Each artwork is a one-off and never to be replicated. Once a piece has been sold there are no recreations. Paula is happy to discuss commissions, large or small to suit your requirements, so please do get in touch if you would like to have something made just for you. She has worked on commissions for private clients, as well as for Schools, Academies, Local Authorities and Railways.
Paula also makes wedding accessories and this can also be discussed as a commission work.
Artist Statement
People who like my art will not be surprised to often see a dragonfly adorning my work. I have always been intrigued by the wonderful colours associated with dragonflies and damselflies, hence my dragonfly motif, which is instantly recognisable to those people who collect my work, which is mostly, invested into private collections, both in the United Kingdom and as far away as Japan. Other work is commissioned by organisations such as Local Authorities, Railways, Schools and Academies.
