Blue Glass Chandelier ‘Bombay’ by Jo Vincent

This stunning blue glass chandelier was originally commissioned for the Cedar Manor Hotel in Windermere. Windermere is located in the stunning Lake District, one of the UK’s most picturesque areas.

Sustainability is a big part of the hotel’s ethos, so Jo used 70 (empty 🙁 Bombay Sapphire gin bottles that were donated by other local hotels to make the chandelier.

The bottles were cut into four and slumped in the kiln before being drilled ready for the light fittings which bring the etched botanical details of the gin bottles to life. The textured effect creates a crystalline reflective light display which is very soothing to the eye.

Blue Glass Chandelier – Artist

Jo Vincent glass artist originally studied 3D Design before moving to glass around 30 years ago.

When Jo first came across glass, she was mesmerised by the interplay between light and glass.

She became hooked for life and went on to work in glass studios in London and Italy to fine-tune her own glassmaking craft.

Jo gained experience working with kiln-formed glass and traditional stained glass techniques.

With kiln-formed glass, she primarily operated using the techniques of lead crystal casting and the lost wax method. She has primarily specialised in kiln-formed glass ever since and still enjoys the range and depth that this form of glass-making design gives her.

Her installations and interior artworks are created using a variety of glass-forming techniques including fusing, casting, cold working, etching, laser and water jet cutting.

At the start of the new millennium Jo Vincent glass artist headed to Kendal in Cumbria and set up her own studio. When not out walking her beloved dog, she can be found working at her studio in the heart of a community hub with other creatives.

Jo also makes time to teach her glass-making skills, lecturing around the UK on various craft and design disciplines.

With the beautiful Lake District as the backdrop to her studio, her studio has gone from strength to strength over the last few decades.

Her sizeable machinery enables her to work on both large and small pieces from small objects to large architectural glass installations.

From there she works on a wide variety of commission glass projects for residential and commercial clients.

Commissions have included unique lighting for homes and offices, glass wall panels and sculptural works.

Jo often collaborates on these commissions with other allied professionals such as furniture makers, metal and lighting engineers and interior designers.
