Long Neck Glass Vase ‘Butterfly I’ By Amelia Burke
Part of Amelia’s “Butterfly” series. Butterfly I is a gorgeous long neck glass vase. Deep ruby tones spiral with azure around the vase. Highlighting the tessellating patterns, found upon a butterfly wing.
The movement in the pattern mirrors the fluttering of the butterfly. Such a harmonious piece, this long neck glass vase will call out to all who admire it.
Long Neck Glass Vase Artist
Amelia’s intrigue with hot glass grew while studying Three-dimensional Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. Gaining a BA (Hons) specialising in hot glass, Amelia furthered her experience by volunteering her time at several glass studios. Having worked with Charlie Macpherson at Notarianni Glass, Amelia then went on to work at The World of Glass in St Helens. It was here that she would demonstrate glassblowing, teach courses and work on commissions.
Amelia’s work looks at tiny details within the natural world. A snapshot of detail is sketched and then scaled up to a high degree. Amelia then reinterprets her enlarged drawing in hot glass creating gorgeous glass art. For such intricacy, patience and skill are key. The result is a wondrous feel of movement and vibe.
Amelia is now part of the family team at E&M Glass studio in Malpas in the UK. Working alongside her husband Charlie Burke she makes her own creations.
Some of Amelia’s work can be seen at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. While working with Lime Arts she created an installation for the Hydrotherapy department. A project she very much enjoyed. During this commission, Amelia needed to hire a hot glass workshop. She hired the workshop Charlie was working in at the time and they have been together ever since!
