Unique Fused Glass Sculpture ‘Aqua III’ by Lisa Pettibone

An ethereal beauty, this unique fused glass sculpture really is attention-grabbing.

The complex wave pattern is achieved by fusing the streaky turquoise glass with a 6mm thick tinted layer and then slumping it several times.

The water jet cut edges have been softened by firing and the piece can be displayed in several different positions.

Lisa’s work in this Aqua series is inspired by oceans’ elastic quality, as it is pulled by both the sun and the moon to create the tides.

Unique Fused Glass Sculpture Artist

Lisa Pettibone Glass Artist is UK based, originally from California with a background in graphic design. Her practice questions how force, energy and shapes bring the world together as filtered through human perception. She then turns these ideas into creative and sculptural forms.

Using a variety of media and materials, Lisa creates directional sculptures (glass, fabric, paper, and plastic). She also uses printmaking and photography to research how man and nature interact. Lisa is fascinated by science and her artistic process includes scientific concepts and collaboration. A growing interest in astronomy and physics has inspired her recent work.

Lisa has a BA(Hons) in 3D Design in Glass from UCA Farnham. Then, she went on to complete an MA in Art and Science from Central Saint Martins, London. She is currently an artist-in-residence at Mullard Space Science Laboratory (UCL), which has proved to be the perfect place to bring together science and art.

Lisa primarily works from her studio in Surrey. She develops work for exhibitions, as well as commissions and regularly teaches glass-making courses.

Lisa’s work is held in private collections and she has also won a number of prestigious awards. Her art was selected for The Aesthetica Art Prize 2013. In 2017 she won the National Open Art Prize Installation Category. Lisa also completed two commissions for the National Trust. These include Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire and The Vyne near Basingstoke. The prestigious Discerning Eye Exhibition (2015 and 2018) also showcased her work.
